  • Why should I grow my own food?
There are many reasons people chose to grow their own food. Learning to garden improves your independence and increases your knowledge of good health are two common reasons for growing your own food. Also, gardening is good exercise! You choose what varieties of produce to grow and eat freshly picked food with a higher nutritional value. Learn what's grown locally during each season, and try new types of vegetables not readily found in the grocery store; all the while knowing that no harmful chemicals were added to your food. Also, you help the environment because eating local food reduces carbon emissions generated when vegetables are transported from one area of the globe to another. Plus, it's family fun that people of
    all ages can enjoy.

  • Where is the garden?
The garden is located on the grounds of Tree Hill Nature Center,
7152 Lone Star Road, next to the amphitheater.

  • Who can be a member?
Memberships are available to families in the Arlington areas and to non-profit groups that wish to promote community involvement in organic gardening. Application forms for family and group membership are
available from this website and by request from UUCJ (904-725-8133). You can always email us too: info@arlingtoncommunitygarden.org.

  • What are the costs and benefits of membership?
The plot rental fee is $60/year for a 4 x 8 plot with a one time $20 deposit. This deposit is refundable at the completion of your rental term provided the plot has been cleared and prepared for the next gardener. For non-profit groups, the plot rental fee is $60/year for a 4x12 plot. For that fee you receive a garden plot consisting of a raised bed filled with organic soil, water, an introductory organic gardening class, access to compost, and invitations to participate in events planned for garden members such as recipe exchange gatherings and harvest potlucks. (We are growing both food and community!)

  • How many garden plots are available?
The Arlington Community Garden has 37 plots. 27 plots (4 x 8 feet) are for members and family. 10 plots (4 x 12 feet) are provided to non-profit groups. Plots are assigned to qualified applicants on a first come, first serve basis.
